We partnered with Historic England to restore the former Steel Mills at Little Kelham, which are some incredible examples of Sheffield heritage.
Eagle Works is the largest of these Mills, and now it's finished we are using it to let Opera on Location bring something special to Kelham Island.
Mozart's Don Giovanni.
Known as Mozart’s darkest opera, Don Giovanni lives up to its reputation as a tale of murder, rape and revenge.
About the Opera
Don Giovanni exists in a world where he takes what he wants, when he wants, without regard for who he hurts along the way. With his power, position and considerable wealth, he intimidates and belittles those around him. Feeling untouchable, our opera begins as Don Giovanni commits the ultimate crime.
Set in 2018, this modern, fast-paced production explores the opera’s themes of power, privilege and sexual assault which are as relevant today as they were when the piece was written in 1787.
Eagle Works is the perfect location for this fantastic opera that comprises horror, love and comedy in a perfect blend that will leave both opera stalwarts and first-time audiences ‘devilishly’ satisfied.
Originally built in 1830, Eagle Works once made steel files, tools and saws. We've restored it to bring back it's beautiful original features, and installed biomass boilers so that it can be heated in a way that's carbon neutral. A bit of history that's future proofed for climate change.
We're turning Eagle Works in commercial spaces, so if you want a workspace for your business that will drastically reduce your carbon footprint then click here to see what's available.
Opera on Location will be doing a 4 night run from the 29th of August to the 1st of September.
If you're interested in living in Little Kelham it's a great excuse to come down and have a look around. You could also check out KurbArt along Green Lane whilst you're in the area.
